Dove of Peace embroidery

The ‘Dove of Peace’ stamps were issued as expected on September 19, 2025 (except for Greenland and Switzerland). The final list includes Aland – Armenia – Austria – Barbados () – Cyprus – Faroe Islands – Greenland (September 12) – Liechtenstein – Luxembourg – Switzerland (September 4) – United Nations (Geneva) – United Nations (New York) – United Nations (Vienna). These embroideries have a size of about 55×42 mm. Barbados was mentioned in the advertisement of the UNPA, but without illustration, on the contrary to all others, and so far no detailed information is available. If this information is confirmed, then it would not be surprising that other countries could also join over the next months. This has to be watched closely (details provided by Jaap Sarelse, the Netherlands, and Enzo Cafaro, Italy).

The denominations on the stamps are quite high (5 to 10 €uros) and the printing runs remained low. The first data we had access to are related to the following postal administrations: Aland [13,000] – Armenia [5,000] – Austria [90,000] – Liechtenstein [18,000] – Luxembourg [30,000] – UN Geneva [12,300] – UN New York [10,800] – UN Vienna [13,900]. The stamps from the countries with lower printing runs were sold out on the first day. Stamps really used on mail will be exceptions, while quality of the cancellation, even on first day covers, will remain bad, consequence of the thickness of the embroidery. The three stamps from the UPU administrations became available as a mixed FDC. Eventually, these stamps are just products for collectors.

UPU release also a label with the same shape, showing only the word “PAIX” and without denomination (so not considered as a stamp). This label attached to postal cards, without cancellation, was distributed to UPU VIPs, and some of them became available during the 2025 PhilaKorea philatelic exhibition. The printing number is unknown and the first items seen on Delcampe are sold above €200.

August 2025 News

Enzo Cafaro (Italy) completed the information about the dove issue described in a previous post and enhanced the list of participating countries. He provided also the picture of all to be produced items. The country list includes now : Aland, Armenia, Austria, Cyprus, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Switzerland and United Nations (offices of Geneva, New York and Vienna, as well as UPU). By adding all the denominations we reach a total of about 75 Euros for 13 stamps that will never be used on real covers ! Our friend Jaap Sarelse (the Netherlands) will try to create some mixed FDC covers when stamps will be available. We wish him good luck as even the cancellation on such thick stamps (embroidery) may be tricky. If he succeeds, we promise to show results in these pages 😉

Luis Malanco (Mexico) provided some additional information regarding the Ecuador stamps issued on July 28, 2022, together with Mexico [T20220728] and honoring Leona Vicario and Manuela Saenz. The Ecuadorian stamps were issued at a much lower number than initially announced. The stamp was produced at only 2,000 samples, while the souvenir sheet only at 450 units. Those are the figures appearing in the official leaflet published by the “Servicios Postales del Ecuador”.

By coincidence, a forgotten issue was discovered recently by comparing data in the Michel Rundschau Catalogue. On December 29, 2022, Cambodia and Colombia issued twin stamps at the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between both countries. The stamps show a view of Ankor Wat and the Grave in the Archeological National Park of Tierradentro. This issue has not been reported so far and will of course be integrated in the catalogue. The difficulty will now be to find the stamps and not only reproductions.

During the year 2021, Colombia celebrated the 200th anniversary of its independence. Numerous stamps related to this event were issued during this year, which correspoded also to the first recognition of Colombia by other countries. By end of 2022, a first joint issue with Mexico was released (December 20, 2021). Surprisingly, during the following year of 2022, Colombia created a series of different stamps celebrating diplomatic relationships with different countries (not necessarily based on 200 years, but at least on rounded numbers): Egypt (February 23, 2022), USA (May 2), South Korea (May 6), Peru (May 27), Germany (August 5), Cambodia (December 29) and Chile (December 29. This type of issues continued the following year with Barbados (December 18, 2023), Canada December 22) and Argentina (December 23). During the year 2024, only stamps celebrating relationships with Sweden were released (exact issue date is unknown). Among all these stamps, and to our knowledge, only four translated in true joint issues, including Mexico [20211220], Peru (T20220527], Cambodia [C20221229], and Argentina [T20231223]

The design of the North Korean stamps to be released jointly with Russia on August 15, 2025 has been released. We have not seen yet the Russian stamps, but this country confirmed stamp issue in this honour at the same date. Design could be similar.

Last minute information: Kenneth Sequeira just provided information about stamps released by the Philippines on August 5, 2025, jointly with India, celebrating the 75th anniversary of their relationship. Each country issued a pair of identical stamps showing flowers. Note that despite being issued in 2025, the stamps celebrate an anniversary that took place in 2024.

Independence, kingdom and doves

New information about joint stamp issues was gathered over the past weeks:

Sudan is a country to be added to the joint issue already involving Algeria, Egypt and Tunesia, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Arab League (1945-2025) and that is described under [T20250522]. The exact date of issue of the Sudanese stamp is unknown, but probably the same as for the other countries, namely May 22, 2025 (information provided by Kenneth Sequeira, Singapore).

Same additional information regarding the AICEP issue from May 13, 2025: Guinea-Bissau is also a country to be added to Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Macau and Portugal that have issued identical stamps at the same date. Guinea-Bissau issued one stamp in miniature sheets of 8 stamps [3×3] with central label and a souvenir sheet with a single stamp. We are still waiting for information about stamps from Mozambique, Sao Tome Principe and Timor.

On May 23, 2025, the 1100th anniversary of the Kingdom of Croatia and the coronation of King Tomislav was celebrated by the issue of identical stamps involving Bosnia Herzegovina (Mostar) and Croatia. This twin issue shows a bas-relief of the King Tomislav holding a scepter. BH Mostar issued the stamps in miniature sheets of 8 units ([3×3] including a central label) at only 5,000 samples, while Croatia issued 50,000 stamps in panes of 25 stamps and 5 labels [5×6].

The Dove of Peace project is progressing. Around September 20, 2025, ten to twelve European countries will issue an identical embroidered stamp with an equivalent denomination of about 10 Euros. Confirmation of participation is reported from Aland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Faroe Islands and Greenland. These countries are all part of the SEPAC (Small European Postal Administration Cooperation – https://www.sepacstamps.eu/) which every year since 2007, issues by end of the Summer, a series of stamps with a common topic. If this embroided stamp corresponds to the 2025 SEPAC issue, this will be the first time that the SEPAC countries agree on a twin issue. Other countries including Gibraltar, Iceland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Malta, Monaco or Vatican City could in this case also participate. Over the past year, there was always at least one country not participating, so there is no guarantee that all twelve countries will be involved. However, Austria and Armenia have also already announced their participation, so, in the best case it could become an extended SEPAC issue (without mention of the SEPAC word on the stamp). We also have to wait to complete the information about this new series (information provided by Jaap Sarelse, the Netherlands).

The 50 years of independence of Cape Verde was celebrated commonly with Portugal on July 5, 2025, with the issue of two identical stamps. Only limited information is available so far from Cape Verde. The 50th anniversary of the independence of Angola will be celebrated on November 11, 2025 which could also result in an Angola – Portugal joint issue on that day.

Update May 2024

While the month of April 2024 remained relatively quiet in terms of new joint issues (Israel-Romania on April 17 and Italy San marino on April 20), the month of May saw some interesting releases which are now listed below.

May 9, 2024: This is the official date of this year’s PostEurop issue. The topic is related to ‘Underwater fauna and flora’. A large number of countries issued their stamp(s) on the anniversary date of May 9, but as the design and dates of issue are remaining within the hands of each postal administration, similarly to previous years, the 2024 issue is not considered as joint, on the contrary to last year. This series is just reported in the catalogue for information for collectors of Europa / Europa CEPT / PostEurop stamps. So far, 57 countries have already released their stamp(s) or have announced their participation. Information is missing only for Albania, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine [N20240509].

May 21, 2024: Morocco and Romania celebrate cultural relations between both countries through a pair of identical stamps related to folk art. This is a twin issue [T1] representing traditional costumes and ceramic or porcelain objects from the regions of Vâlcea and Horezu (Romania), or from Fez (Morocco) [T20240521].

May 21, 2024: The 150th anniversary of the birthday of Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937) is celebrated by the Vatican State and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (SMOM) through a twin issue representing the Italian inventor in front of dedicated equipment. Unfortunately, as the UPU does not recognize SMOM a an official postal administration, this issue remains described in the catalogue, but under the heading non-approved/twin issue [N/T1] [N20240521]. Each individual collector to decide if he/she wants to keep this issue in his/her collection.

May 26, 2024: The accession of Frederic X to the Danish throne is celebrated through joint souvenir sheets issued by Denmark, Faroe Islands and Greenland. Due to the direct link between these three postal administrations, this joint issue is considered as a Territorial twin issue [TD] and will be referenced as [D20240526]. The identical souvenir sheets with one stamp showing the portrait of King Frederic X were issued at the date of the anniversary of the King (born on May 26, 1968). King Frederic X is officially reigning since January 14, 2024.

May 31, 2024: as a last minute issue, we were informed that China PR and Malaysia have issued a joint pair of stamps at the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between both countries (Source: Adam Paish, UK). The stamps represent two local large trees (Pine and Merbau/malaka teak) from both countries.

The potential Mongolia – Switzerland joint issue expected at the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between both countries resulted in a souvenir sheet issued unilaterally by Mongolia on May 20, 2024 (see https://montsame.mn/en/read/344262), so, not a joint issue.

The Tunisia – Russia joint issue initially scheduled for May 24, 2024 (Art – Painter Roubtzoff) is now postponed to September 9, 2024 (Russian philatelic program).

We are still missing information about the Indian stamps linked to the already announced Israel Purim souvenir sheet that was supposed to be released on May 7, 2024.

The catalogue Part 1 and Part 15 have been updated accordingly.

Update March 2024

Several new information reached us during this month. Next to the two official twin issues released during the month of March (Hungary – Luxembourg March 12, 2023, and Angola – Cape Verde – Portugal March 28, 2024) and described in specific pages, one has to take account of the following news:

  • from Enzo Cafaro (Italy): several news about future issues involving Italy, e.g., on April 18, 2024 with San Marino (Vespa fan Club), on June 15, 2024, with San Marino, SMOM and Vatican (Red Cross 160th anniversary), and on January 25, 2025, with Slovenia (Gorizia and Nova Gorizia, European Capital of Culture). Regarding this last issue, the Italian stamp scheduled to be released on April 28, 2024, and related to the Fall of Gorizia wall, will not involve Slovenia and will remain unilateral. Also, in the 2024 philatelic program, a joint issue between Belarus and the Vatican is under preparation.
  • from Kenneth Sequeira (Singapore): Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan will issue joint stamps related to UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, telling tradition of Nasreddin Hodja anecdotes. Exact date of issue is unknown, but the stamps should be released during Quarter IV, 2024.
  • From Jürgen Luebke (Germany): It seems that Greenland and the Faeroe Islands (may be also Denmark) will issue respectively on May 24 and on May 27, 2024, identical souvenir sheets created by Martin Mörck at the occasion of accession of Frederic X to the Danish thron. At least, in the official documents from the Faeroe Islands, this item is described as a joint issue. Information about the participation of Denmark is still awaited.
  • From Robert Schrijvers (Mongolia): Robert found the following official statement “Swiss development agency is cooperating with the Mongolian Post Company’s Mark Office to create a joint stamp within the framework of the 60th anniversary of Mongolian–Switzerland diplomatic relations. The joint stamp will be introduced to the public in May this year.” Joint issues involving Mongolia are very rare, so more information is needed at this stage, in particular from the Swiss side.

The first 2024 UPU 150th anniversary stamps with common design have been seen. Azerbaijan released a souvenir sheet including two stamps with the common design on February 1, 2024 (size 122×83 mm, printing run 4,000). This souvenir sheet is also available as non-perforated. The full series of stamps related to this issue will be described under [T20241009] as most of the stamps will be released around October 9, 2024.

The catalogue pages have been updated accordingly (Volume 1 and Volume 15).

Update February 2024

Several new information have been reported over the month of February 2024, some of them even contradicting previously announced issues:

The first and most intriguing is related to the India – Israel joint issue initially scheduled for issue on February 13, 2024. From Uri Barlev (Israel), we learned that everything was prepared by Israel Post Philatelic Service, including printing and cancelling FDCs for release on that date. For some mysterious reason, there was a dispute between Israel and India postal services concerning the date of issue. India Post announced that the issue date would be in the third week of March. Hence, Israel Post withdrew the issue and recalled all distributed material. The Israeli material will be distributed on a new issue date, apparently May 7, 2024, and it is not clear yet if new FDCs will be prepared or the precancelled February ones will be used. No additional information is available from the Indian side.

The April 25th 1974 event was the overthrow of the Estado Novo government in Portugal.  It led to the independence of Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Sao Tome and Principe.  All those countries could have been part of the joint issue announced by Portugal. Very recently, it was confirmed that only Angola and Cape Verde will join Portugal in this new issue scheduled for April 2024. Exact date is not known yet, but it could indeed be the anniversary date of April 25, 2024.

Stefan Kepic, Slovakia discovered an additional 2022 October 9 World Post Day stamp with identical design issued by Guatemala on February 28, 2023 in miniature sheets of 10 stamps (now reported under [T20221009]).

Ehsan Mehmood (Pakistan) reported information about products linking Belarus and Pakistan celebrating the 30th anniversary of their relationship. Pakistan issued a stamp on February 3, 2024 while Belarus issued a postal stationery (cover) on March 1, 2024 with first day cancellation on March 4, 2024. Designs are different and there is no hint from both postal administrations that these products have been created jointly. Therefore and unfortunately we cannot recognize them as joint.

During the year 2023, PostEurop celebrated its 30th anniversary. Some countries had issued during the year stamps using an identical logo provided by PostEurop. Information was collected about such issues but we had to come to the conclusion that the countries having celebrated with stamps this anniversary have not done it in a coordinated way and therefore all these stamps cannot be considered as joint. For those still interested in these stamps, here is a list of countries having participated during the year 2023: Azerbaijan (July 10), Bulgaria (September 12), the Faroe Islands (October 23, logo on a stamp showing waterlilies), Kazakhstan (November 20), Moldova (May 20) and Serbia (September 5). The Isle of Man (July 5) added this logo on a their 2023 Europa stamp, while Poland (December 1) and Romania (August 31) have both issued a postal stationary. This list may not be complete and any additional information is welcome.

Huginn Mission

In mid-August 2023, ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen begins his new mission to the International Space Station (ISS). The mission has been named Huginn, after one of Odin’s two ravens. In connection with the mission, Posta Faroe Islands and Tusass Greenland publish a joint stamp issue on August 11, 2023 consisting of a souvenir sheet from each postal service. A joint souvenir folder containing both mint souvenir sheets became also available. During this initial long-term mission to the International Space Station, Andreas Mogensen will spend six months on board. There, he will conduct scientific experiments, ranging from virtual reality and sleep to climate science.

The design of the stamp is based on the title of the mission, Odin’s mythical raven Huginn, and how it serves as a symbol of science and the accumulation of scientific information.  There is a rather special convergence between the Inuit culture and the old Norse culture in shamanism, although the Norse Huginn does not exist in Greenlandic culture. When Odin sends both ravens Huginn and Muninn across the different worlds of the Norse universe, he appears as the shaman, who aided by his animistic helpful spirits, gathers information about the state of affairs. In Inuit cultures, the Angakkoq, shaman, also deploys his helpful spirits to retrieve information about the wider world beyond the settlement.
The line art drawing on the left side of the souvenir sheet depicts a scene in which the Greenlandic Angakkoq is communicating with the raven spirit Qaartuluk, while the illustration on the right side of the sheet depicts Odin in the process of receiving Huginn, at home in Asgard. Note that both ravens have an ornamental eye on their body, which symbolises that they are the ’eye of the shaman’ and not ordinary ravens. The large raven on the stamp has neutral ornamentation, so it can represent both the Norse and the Inuit cultural spheres. The sheets displays also the symbol of the mission and Andreas Mogensen portrait.

This issue, originally presented as involving also Denmark, is eventually limited to the two postal administrations. Flight is scheduled for August 25, 2023.

Faroe Island – Greenland 2022

The date of January 14, 2022 corresponds to the 50th anniversary of the death of King Frederick IX of Denmark and at the same time to the date of accession to the Danish throne of Queen Margrethe II. At the occasion of this Golden Jubilee, both Faroe and Greenland issue a souvenir sheet. The Faroe souvenir sheet shows the Queen in national Faroese costume in front of the ruins of Magnus Cathedral, while Greenland issues a souvenir sheet showing the Queen in Greenlandic costume in front of icebergs. Unfortunately none of the postal administrations claim these products being joint. Also, there is no common product available for sale (e.g. mixed FDC or mixed folder). Therefore these souvenir sheets cannot be considered as joint, but simply as a parallel anniversary issue [PA/N]. On top of this, the main country, Denmark, is not issuing stamps at this January 14, 2022 anniversary date and prefers concentrating on different products related to this jubilee released over the year, with the first one which became available already on January 3.

More about Slania

Wayne Chen (USA) confirmed that black prints from the Denmark, Faroe and Greenland joint souvenir sheets [T20210812] related to Czeslaw Slania became available at respectively 100, 1,800 and 11,000 samples. He could provide pictures of the three items signed by the engraver Martin Mörck. Faroe’s and Greenland’s black prints were distributed to stamp subscribers from both countries while Denmark’s black prints were essentially given to the main participants of the issue, and the rest sold within minutes.
